Breckenridge, Colorado

The town and ski resort of Breckenridge is located in the heart of the Colorado Rocky Mountains. Less than an hour and a half drive from the Denver metropolitan area, Colorado’s most popular
ski resort has also become a “world-class” year round destination for visitors from around the world, second home buyers, and for retirees seeking an active lifestyle.

Established in 1859 along the banks of the Blue River, the town was originally a mining camp for the thousands of hopeful pioneers who were lured to Colorado with tales of fabulous fortunes to be made mining for gold. The “boom” went bust in the 1940’s and the miners left behind a quiet, sleepy town of little interest to the outside world.

Breckenridge reawakened in the 60’s following the construction of I-70, the Eisenhower Tunnel, and the opening of Summit County’s first world-class ski resort. The quaintness of the old mining town has survived the ages and the creation of a “historic district” has insured that future visitors will continue to be charmed by the Victorian-style mountain village surrounded by the natural beauty of hundreds of square miles of national forest and wilderness.

The Breckenridge Ski Resort is the principal winter activity, but is far from the only reason to visit. In addition to alpine skiing/boarding, adventurers seeking a more subdued winter experience will find nearby groomed trails for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing, or sledding, while the wild at heart can explore hundreds miles of backcountry terrain by snowmobile.

In the summer, there are more live concerts, fairs, and festivals than anyone could possibly attend. The town is home to hundreds of unique businesses including fantastic restaurants, antique and art galleries, and one-of-a-kind boutique shops. At the ski resort there are summer resort activities including a “maze”, horseback riding, and the exciting alpine slide.

With hundreds of miles of hiking trails for exploring or camping and a countywide paved bike path, there is no shortage of opportunities for adventure seekers.  Fly fishing for Blue River trout is also very popular.

Golfers will be delighted by the high altitude affect on the distance of their drives at the Jack Niklaus designed Breckenridge Golf Course.  It is open to the public and, yes, it is spectacular!

Fisherman can test their skills fly-fishing along the Blue River, in numerous natural mountain ponds or along the shores of the cold deep waters of Lake Dillon…or they can rent a pontoon boar, a canoe, or even a sailboat.
